Aslackby Emergency Flood Defences – Your village needs you!

We are setting up a volunteer group to help keep the water flowing in the right channels at times of increased rainfall.

Jobs that typically need doing are:

  • clearing drains and silt traps;
  • checking bridges and culverts for blockages;
  • filling sandbags and getting them to vulnerable properties

At the recent flood event in January, a small band of volunteers came forward and worked tirelessly to try to prevent floodwater from entering properties. Sadly, it was not wholly successful and several neighbours had floodwater in their homes.

Whilst Lincolnshire County Council offer a Flood Reporting line 24 hours a day on 01522 782082, they do not have a resource that can be despatched at the time. However, by reporting a flood event to them, they undertake to send a planning co-ordinator to look at the specific causes of flooding, so that they can work with the relevant bodies to create improved flood defences.

In the meantime, our neighbours remain at risk. Please notify us if you are happy to be part of a volunteer group who can be called upon to help in an emergency. Gill Saggers at Brookside has set up a “whats app” group, so we can get ahead of the problem and hopefully prevent more damage.

Please call Gill Saggers on 07716 742260 or Alison Carr on 07910 679697 so we can add your contact details.

Or email through to Gill at: colingillsaggers@hotmail.co.uk

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE WORKED SO HARD OVER THE YEARS AND FOR THOSE HAPPY TO HELP FOR THE FUTURE

    Will be retiring to our Aslackby home next year, and while it is a way off, this is definitely something I will be volunteering for. Heart goes out to those directly affected in recent days.
