Aslackby Emergency Flood Defences

We are setting up a volunteer group to help keep the water flowing in the right channels at times of increased rainfall.

First, THANK YOU to all who have worked so hard over the years to protect the village against flooding.

At the recent flood event in January, a small band of volunteers came forward and worked tirelessly to try to prevent floodwater from entering properties. Sadly, it was not wholly successful and several neighbours had floodwater in their homes.

Flood prevention volunteers

While regular volunteers have been great in responding to flooding risks on an ad hoc basis, we would like to organise a volunteers group, in order to document a flood response and prevention plan.

If you are interested to volunteer, the jobs that typically need doing are:

  • Clearing drains and silt traps
  • Checking bridges and culverts for blockages
  • Filling sandbags and getting them to vulnerable properties

Please notify us using the form below if you are happy to be part of a volunteer group who can be called upon to maintain flood prevention provisions, and/or help in an emergency.

We can set up a Whatsapp group or other means of communication, so we can get ahead of the problem and hopefully prevent more damage.

Reporting flooding

Whilst Lincolnshire County Council offer a Flood Reporting line 24 hours a day on 01522 782082, they do not have a resource that can be despatched at the time.

However, by reporting a flood event to them, they undertake to send a planning co-ordinator to look at the specific causes of flooding, so that they can work with the relevant bodies to create improved flood defences.

How to volunteer

Please complete the form below to volunteer, including any limitations with availability or mobility. Thank you 🙂
